A game of colour, shadow and light
The harvest is over, leaves fell and the sun, bathing our lavra in gold, is waning. Soon, cold wind will come from over the Dnieper and blanket the plains of Kyiv with snow. Then, it will be time to rest. And rest we will need: Masons just fixed a cross to the top of the golden cupola of the new church: The glorious Mother of God, another beautiful work in our beautiful monastery. There are only a few things left to do – to finish the central fresco on the ceiling and to cover the main iconostasis with holy icons. The time of consecration is approaching fast and the roads to the lavra are going to get blocked very soon...
Players will take the roles of gifted monks which carry on their shoulders the weight of a near-impossible deadline, as well as their own physical degradation, exhaustion, and laziness. And most importantly – not to irritate the abbot who makes sure that nobody is selfishly hoarding paints, gold and gems. Only the most diligent and virtuous of them can become the venerated master of the new iconostas.
I always dreamed about making a living as an illustrator. For quite a while, I didn’t believe that such a dream was possible, so I started my career as an IT specialist. It didn’t take long for me to realize that my heart wasn’t in it and in 2013, I gave up on coding and started a new life as a professional illustrator.
Since then, I have worked in a range of media – computer games, board games, comics, posters... Although I love my job, it’s not the one and only part of my life. I am still trying to pursue many of my hobbies and interests. Be it my love for unicorns, LARPs, pop culture or pirates – I need it all! More about me: https://janakilianova.com
I vividly remember one bright day in Kindergarten – I found a board game in a toy box, illustrated with princesses, dragons and monsters. Of course it was trash – but I didn't know it then. What mattered was that from the moment I rolled the die I became hooked and never quit boardgaming since.
I did many things in my life – worked in a hospice, assembled props in a theater, knocked down industrial buildings... But above all else I wrote. I am a journalist through and through. I currently work as the editor-in-chief of a popular science magazine 100+1. You can read the online version here: https://www.stoplusjednicka.cz
