Some questions first

Hi,

you don't know me and that's fine. Road to fame is long and hard, right? Jokes aside, I am happy you reached this site, because – in all likelihood – you didn't stumble here by accident. You want to know some more bits about Icons of Kyiv, a board game currently under development. We are aiming to bring the project to a succesful crowdsourcing campaign on Game found by the end of autumn 2022.

There shall be light...

I vividly remember the time and place I decided to create Icons of Kyiv. It was a bright, sunny afternoon last May. It was a fine day – I was traveling home by train, flicking through a history magazine from the publishing company I work in (Extrapublishing) and was really happy, because I let the oldest kid stay with her grandma for a night. If you are a parent, you know... What a day!

How random is the game?

I knew from the very beginning what I didn't want – a deterministic system. Obviously, as an avid eurogamer, I like heavier mechanics but what I cannot stand is dry, almost computer-like predictability. Such games might be very well designed and thought out and will be won by players who can better do the better math – but are rarely exciting. I wanted something else.
